Matthew Laprade grew up in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, with racing in his blood and a determination that has set him apart from his earliest days behind the wheel. He started racing at six years old in go karts, and by the time he was seven he had already begun turning heads. In 2019, in just his rookie season of karting, Matthew won the Vega Florida State Championship in the Rookie Division — and then backed it up by claiming the Vega National Championship that same year. It was a statement that left no doubt about the talent that had arrived.
The championships kept coming. In 2021, Matthew claimed the Florida Dirt Championship Series title in the Junior 1 division and added a victory at the prestigious World 100 karting event in the same class. He moved to Bandolero cars for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Bandolero Nationals at Charlotte Motor Speedway — one of the most competitive youth racing events in the country.
The 2024 season brought his most significant step yet. Matthew transitioned to Legend cars and immediately won the Winter Nationals mini-series championship at Citrus County Speedway, taking five wins in five days across five consecutive races. He also made his Pro Truck debut that year, winning at Auburndale Speedway in September and posting three top-fives and five top-tens in his maiden season. At 13, he was competing wheel-to-wheel with drivers years his senior and winning.
