Matthew's Story

Matthew Laprade grew up in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, with racing in his blood and a determination that has set him apart from his earliest days behind the wheel. He started racing at six years old in go karts, and by the time he was seven he had already begun turning heads. In 2019, in just his rookie season of karting, Matthew won the Vega Florida State Championship in the Rookie Division — and then backed it up by claiming the Vega National Championship that same year. It was a statement that left no doubt about the talent that had arrived.

The championships kept coming. In 2021, Matthew claimed the Florida Dirt Championship Series title in the Junior 1 division and added a victory at the prestigious World 100 karting event in the same class. He moved to Bandolero cars for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Bandolero Nationals at Charlotte Motor Speedway — one of the most competitive youth racing events in the country.

The 2024 season brought his most significant step yet. Matthew transitioned to Legend cars and immediately won the Winter Nationals mini-series championship at Citrus County Speedway, taking five wins in five days across five consecutive races. He also made his Pro Truck debut that year, winning at Auburndale Speedway in September and posting three top-fives and five top-tens in his maiden season. At 13, he was competing wheel-to-wheel with drivers years his senior and winning.

2026 Season

The 2026 season is Matthew’s most ambitious yet. Competing in four divisions with four separate teams, he is taking on over 40 races across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas — a schedule that demands consistency, adaptability, and physical and mental discipline week after week.

In Pro Trucks, Matthew continues his association with Grant Thompson Racing — the team he has built strong results with at Five Flags Speedway, Mobile International Speedway, and Cordele Speedway.

The Late Model Stock Car program with Tom Usry Racing brings a new level of challenge, with appearances across the CARS Tour, the IHRA series, the I95 Showdown, and weekly competition at South Boston Speedway, Anderson Motor Speedway, and Ace Speedway. His Modified campaign with BMF Shocks & Chassis in the Modifieds of Mayhem series — which already produced a debut pole and podium at Montgomery — continues to build towards bigger targets, including a return to the Snowball Derby at Five Flags. And the Sportsman program with Boyd Tech at Citrus County Speedway and New Smyrna Speedweeks rounds out a full, determined season.

In Matthew's Own Words

“My goal is to work as hard as I can on my dream of being a professional race car driver at the highest level I can achieve. I believe in the process of waking up each day with the mindset of what can I do today to get better physically, mentally and spiritually. Our team lives by the motto that we win or we learn and doing things the right way will eventually lead us to success. I am blessed to be able to race and I intend to pay it forward whenever possible to help others along the way.”
