The Race

Matthew LaPrade finished sixth in the Fall Brawl 50 at Montgomery Motor Speedway on Saturday night, on the lead lap in the Modifieds of Mayhem season finale. His #18 BMF Shocks & Chassis Modified started the night off the pace and came to him as the race went long. Modifieds of Mayhem closed its points season with seventeen starters, and eleven of them were still on the lead lap at the finish.

Qualifying

Matthew qualified seventh in the Modified field.

Before the feature, the tour ran a redraw, so the qualifying sheet did not set the grid, and no starting order was published. Kyle Purvis was quickest in the #13 and took the CT525 Fast Qualifier award, and the redraw dropped him to the inside of the second row anyway.

The Race

On lap 28 Purvis moved to the front, and he led the rest of the way. Augie Grill brought the #30 home second and Jaxon Bishop ran third in the #2.

Matthew’s fifty laps ran the other direction from most of the field. His car was slow when the green came out and kept improving as the runs got longer, while cars around him gave up ground.

At the checkered flag he was sixth, one spot behind Jared Maupin in the #96 and one ahead of Jeff Letson in the #60.

A Championship Settled

Montgomery settled the 2026 tour title as well.

Derrick Griffin came to Montgomery with a ten-point lead over Kevin Peel and finished fourth in the #95, which was enough to hold it. It is Griffin’s first Modifieds of Mayhem championship. Peel’s night ended fourteenth in the #18p, two laps down.

What Came Out of the Car

Two things came out of the car with him, and he raised both before anyone asked.

Restarts were the first, and a car that builds speed over a long run gives some of it back every time the field bunches up. Matthew named that himself as the thing to fix.

He also got into a teammate on the final lap, and he put that on himself in the same sentence he raised it.

John Heil built and prepares the #18 out of the BMF Shocks & Chassis shop, and he is the partner Matthew singled out in his post race comments.

In His Own Words

"Making our way home from Montgomery Motor Speedway. Qualified P7 last night and ended up P6 after 50 laps. Car fired off slow but was coming to me in the end as others were going away. Needed to be better on restarts and I'll get that cleaned up. Also got into my teammate on the last lap.. not the best decision on my part. Lessons learned and onto the next one. Appreciate the work from everyone on this BMF Shocks & Chassis. John Heil never stops trying to make us better. That's it for the modified until the Snowball Derby in December."
