Matthew LaPrade Scores Runner-Up in the Modifieds of Mayhem 50 at Cordele Motor Speedway

Matthew LaPrade drove the #18 BMF Shocks & Chassis Modified to a second-place finish in the Modifieds of Mayhem 50 at Cordele Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Matthew qualified third in the 15-car field with a 16.860-second lap and finished runner-up to Cody Stickler as the tour headlined the rescheduled Georgia Summer Nationals in Cordele, Georgia.

The Race

The Georgia Summer Nationals was originally set for August 1 before rain pushed the whole weekend back three weeks. When it ran, it ran big — the ASA Southern Super Series 125 topped the card, and the Modifieds of Mayhem brought a 15-car field to the Georgia half-mile for a 50-lap feature.

The grid included past tour winners Derrick Griffin and Jared Maupin. Second in that company is a real result.

The BMF Shocks & Chassis crew made the long haul from Texas to Cordele to turn the wrenches on the #18, with John Heil leading the work on the Big Lunch Farms, Wade Tractor & Equipment, Adrenalin Powersports Modified all weekend.

Qualifying

Matthew timed the #18 in third at 16.860 seconds. That put the Modified inside the top three before the feature went green.

Fifty laps later he crossed the line second, ahead of Bubba VanDevender and Kevin Peel, with only Stickler’s #46 in front of him. A top-three qualifying run converted into a podium — in a field that made him earn it.

The Modified program is the most technically demanding piece of Matthew’s four-division season. Cordele is what a good night in it looks like — qualify at the front and finish there.

In His Own Words
